The Power of Image

Do you know how powerful your image is? Well, we only need 7 seconds to make the first impression. and guess what, In 7 seconds all that we communicate is non-verbal: The way we are dressed, the colors we choose, our body-language, voice tone etc… The good news? You can control that! You have the privilege to be able to change not only how people see you, but how you feel about yourself too!

So yeah, image IS powerful.

The way we feel about ourselves

Dress like you are going to meet your worst enemy today

If you have ever been in a hospital, then you definitely know how vulnerable you feel in a hospital gown. And, if you have ever dressed like a princess for halloween, then you surely know how powerful and proud you feel in a beautiful dress. It goes the same way regarding every day’s outfit. When you put some extra care choosing what to wear, and pay attention to colors, fabrics, and style that makes you feel good you will actually feel more confident meeting people, doing business, negotiating, etc… In a study reported in the Journal of Experimental Psychology, male subjects were divided in three groups: In the first they stayed in their usual clothes, in the second they were placed in suits, and in the third they dressed in sweats. Then they engaged in a negotiation game with a partner. The males dressed in suits obtained more profitable deals than others, while those who dressed down had lower testosterone levels.

How others see us

"You will never get a second chance to make a first impression"

When we go to a job interview, we always pick the “right” outfit. An outfit that help us make a good impression, an outfit that shows our professionalism, an outfit that prove that we are the right person for this post. And yes, it help us give a good first impression, just like dressing properly to any other occasion. Pay attention to the details. You want others to see you as a serious mature woman? Choose neutral colors like black, white, beige, navy blue, dark green etc… You want to look younger? Go for pastel colors.

In choosing our outfit everyday, we have the privilege to choose how we want the world to perceive us. Choose wisely 😉
